Leaving aside all the issues about what food is healthy and how it should be cooked, the first and most important step everyone has to take if they are to lose weight is to eat less. Go into any fast food outlet or restaurant and the standard portion that arrives is more than 50% larger than the equivalent portion you will receive in Europe. As a result, the US has a significantly worse problem with obesity than any other country. The rule is that you are what you eat and, if you eat too much, you end up overweight. So your strategy has to be to eat less. Curiously, the most important decision is how often to eat at home. If you cook for yourself, you have a better control over the quantity of food you eat. Go out with family or friends and, when the food arrives, there is that expectation that everyone will clear their plates. In such circumstances, you must keep control, eat only half and pack the rest home – that is one less meal you will have to cook for yourself.

One tip for your own kitchen. Buy a set of smaller plates. The eyes often deceive the stomach. If you put a small portion on to a large plate, it looks unsatisfying. You are more likely to feel hungry and want a second helping. Put the same portion on a small plate and it looks more generous and you will often feel more satisfied. For those of you who are more lazy and prefer to cook less often, cook a large batch. Take a number of small boxes, portion it out and store separately in the refrigerator or freezer depending on how quickly you will eat the batch. You should also add a side salad to each lunch and dinner. This should not be a simple serving of lettuce. It’s better to mix salad with vegetables. The fibre content helps you feel fuller more quickly. In all of this, you should avoid snacking. There are enormous amounts of calories in snack foods. Hopefully, you can stick with a three-meal-a-day routine of smaller quantity without feeling hungry. If hunger does become a problem, go for mini meals more often. That way, you eat the same amount of food, but spread out differently over the day.

In all this, the assumption has been you will cope well with the hunger. Sadly, this is not always possible. Even with the help of family and friends, hunger gnaws away inside you and tempts you to break the diet before you have started. The answer is phentermine which suppresses the hunger messages coming from the stomach and allows you to go through to your scheduled meal times without distractions. However, you cannot take phentermine for more than a few weeks at a time. So the strategy is to start without the help of drugs. As and when hunger proves a problem, use the phentermine for a few weeks. All this time, your stomach is slowly contracting and growing more comfortable with smaller portions. You will be surprised how quickly you stop feeling so hungry.

We’ve heard that black tea has been fermented during processing, and green hasn’t. But what is ‘white tea’?

White tea is the uncured and unoxidized tea leaf. Like green, oolong and black tea, it comes from the Camellia sinensis plant.

You would think that with that light, sweet flavor, white tea caffeine level would be the lowest of all teas, but that is not quite true. Because of buds and young tea leaves, which have been found to contain higher levels of caffeine than older leaves, some white teas may have the caffeine level that is slightly higher than that of green teas.

White tea is a specialty of the Chinese province Fujian, but Japan, Sri Lanka and the Darjeeling region of India also produces some fine white teas.

According to the different standards of picking and selection, white teas can be classified into a number of grades. There are four main varieties of white tea: Silver Needle, White Peony, Long Life Eyebrow, and Tribute Eyebrow. The Silver Needle (Baihao Yinzhen) is the most famous kind.

White tea is a very healthy product. The potential anti-obesity effects of white tea have been shown in a series of experiments on human fat cells. Other studies have prooved that it contains more active cancer-fighting antioxidants, anti-viral and anti-bacterial qualities than green tea. It is also richer in catechin due to its lack of processing. Theanine contained in white tea has relaxing and mood enhancing properties, and gallic acid (acts as a antioxidant) and theobromine (a blood vessel widener) both help prevent cancer.
On the other hand, two cupfuls of green tea contain vitamin C equivalent to a large glass of orange juice.

While white tea vs. green tea debate continues, there is no need to choose one over another, when you can benefit from both.

The U.S. government recommends that adults eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, including two or more servings of fruits and three or more servings of vegetables.

We all know that eating fresh fruits is very healthy.

But are there any health benefits to eating dried fruits?

Dried fruit is well packed with vital vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, vitamin A, B6, potassium and magnesium. Dried fruits are high in dietary fiber that aid against corpulence, high blood pressure and factors that contribute to the chance for heart disease. The benefits of dried fruit are plentiful.

Some research has shown dried fruits to be as much as four times higher in antioxidants than their fresh counterparts.

For example, did you know that 5 pounds of fresh apricots produce only one pound of dried apricots? For this reason, dried apricots carry a much higher concentration level of nutrients than any other forms.

Are dried fruits more calorically dense than their fresh counterparts?

There are two reasons why dried fruit may have more calories and sugar than fresh fruit. First, sometimes sugar is added to dried fruits such as cranberries. Since cranberries are so tart, very few people would eat thi without the added sugar, but of course the added sugar adds calories.

The more common reason that dried fruits will usually have more calories and sugar is because the dehydration process rioves so much of the water normally found in the fruit. A handful of raisins is the calorie equivalent of a pound of grapes.

To sum things up, both dried and fresh fruit have nutritional benefits.
