There’s something strange in the neighborhood. Who ya gonna call? Credit busters! The reality is that banks and credit card companies have suddenly taken to increasing interest rates and reducing the credit limits on existing lending facilities. According to the figures, nearly half the US banks reduced the limits on credit cards in the last quarter of 2008. The results of all this are easy to see. Whether you are a good or bad borrower, your credit score is dropping. If the amount of credit is reduced, you are closer to your limit. This makes you look like a bad risk and the score falls. This would be true if you were recklessly increasing your borrowing, always close to the maximum allowed. But there is something seriously wrong with the formula for calculating the score when the customer has done nothing wrong. It’s hurting the good customers more than the bad because there is serious collateral damage.

If credit scores were only used by banks for internal purposes, customers might weather the storm. But employers, landlords and, most importantly, insurance companies also use the scores to decide who is a responsible and reliable member of the community. According to the Society for Human Resource Management, half the nation’s employers routinely use credit scores when recruiting. The majority of insurance companies use scores when setting premiums for driving on the road. For some reason these companies have never been able to explain, they believe that people who have poor credit scores cannot drive safely on the roads. This is odd. If people cannot afford to replace their vehicles, they probably drive more carefully to reduce the risk of an accident.

California, Massachusetts and Hawaii already have laws banning the use of credit scores for auto insurance purposes. A number of other states are proposing legislation to limit or outlaw the practice. As an aside, Maryland has a ban in place for home insurance purposes. In addition to its general unfairness, the use of credit scores is also potentially discriminatory. The problem is that people who have low incomes tend to have low scores. This concentrates poor scores among some minority groups. Civil rights campaigners suggest that African American and Latino drivers with low credit scores face unlawful discrimination on the basis of race or ethnicity. Naturally, the auto insurance companies deny this but, citing commercial confidentiality, refuse to produce any detailed data that would allow the issue to be settled one way or the other. As a result, the poor and disadvantaged are left with the feeling they are being victimised. What is interesting in all this is that insurers continue to be profitable in the three states where credit score use is banned, suggesting that the continuation of the practice is based on convenience. A computer can take data, apply a formula and produce a premium. If human beings had to look at files and make decisions, this would be more expensive and eat into profits.

We all have seen numerous weight loss tips that could be all boiled down to some simple rules like eat less, exercise more and so on. Wrapped into different packages but having the same essence these tips sure sound very reasonable and promising, but bore the hell out of any thinking person by their simplicity and impossibility to follow. Easier said than done, especially when you feel the drive to eat back the pounds you’ve lost with all that routine.

If you take a closer look at the psychological aspects of weight loss you will see that it’s quote complicated and the reasons for gaining weight are so varied and numerous that it would be much easier to just surrender and remain the same overweight inactive person that you probably feel like. Knowing how to deal with such weigh loss road blocks is essential because they can be harder to deal with than the actual eat less/work out more routine. And here are some tips that address namely such stops, and maybe they may sound quite unconventional but when following them you will actually feel that weight loss can be a lot easier than you’ve imagined.

1) Do not leave your house for binge food.

When you try to eat less you typically leave less food inside your house so that there won’t be a temptation for eating more than you should, right? No? Well, you should follow that rule very strictly. But even if you do follow it, there will be moments of temptation to leave your house and go buy something for a snack. Just an innocent snack or a chocolate bar, not more. Well, the very moment you think of it – grab on to this awareness and don’t leave your home. It’s better to put your house keys somewhere where you will be able to see yourself or feel your current weight – this will be a great discouragement for you to have a snack.

2) Stop snacking if you’re already doing it

We all love snacking, don’t we? And we all realize how it’s devastating for that “eat less” part of the weight loss formula. But it seems just like being unreal to avoid snacking when you have the opportunity. Well, it’s not a crime. But at some point when you’re a good half way into that bag of tasty cookies you have a flash in your mind saying “wait, what am I doing?” Now as soon as you get something like that in your mind, you should hold to that thought like a saving circle in the ocean and push it harder and further. It’s your only chance of escaping the binge food consumption state of mind and being able to receive signals like that and following them is a good chance that you will get through. Just don’ forget that you have to actually stop eating when you get something like that. Or you can use a drug like Phentermine to cope with that drive.

3) Observe how much you eat

Psychological studies have shown that people are less prone to eat more when they actually realize how much they eat. Of course, it doesn’t mean you have to leave all your food left-over at the table during the day. But eating from smaller plates and dishes really helps control your portions and eat as much as you really need, not more. Bigger plates make it easier for you to put more food in them and this means that you will still tend to eat more than you should. And you don’t need to buy Phentermine to do that.

It is all too easy to run your life on autopilot. You managed to get up into the air on your own as you came into adulthood. You punched in the destination code and then clicked the switch. Life was up above the clouds, running swift and true across the skies. Decisions were made by routine. Nothing changed because the machine was in charge and it was steering you to your destination. Then a message came to you as the pilot. Fuel is running expectedly low. You will have to land except, when you look below, the clouds have darkened into storm and you are over the sea. If you run out of fuel you will crash and be lost. In a sudden panic, you ask yourself how this could happen. You think about it some more and the answer becomes clear. Every year, you renewed your obligations without looking at what they were costing. If the prices went up, you paid without giving it a second thought. Life was good. Credit was readily available. There was no need to worry. Now the recession is here, there is worry everywhere. You have to look at your obligations again to see what savings can be made.

Let us begin with a sad fact. As unemployment spreads and family budgets shrink, there are more drivers than ever before driving without insurance. The odds are now shifting. Go back ten years and the chance of being in a traffic accident with an uninsured driver was low. Today, you need additional cover. Ironically, we are starting with a possible increase in your premium to recognize the false economy of driving without this cover. Look carefully at your own financial position and decide how much you need to cover you without having to dip into any savings. The older your car and the lower its value, the less need for collision cover. Indeed, you should self-insure by increasing the deductible. It is usually worth covering anything up to $1,000 out of your own pocket. Finally, you should consider placing both car and home insurance with the same company. This can usually save at least 10% on the joint premiums.

It is too easy to pay the auto insurance premiums automatically, renewing every year, assuming there is a loyalty bonus and that the policy is still good value for money. This is not a safe assumption. There are good long-term rates available with first-year discounts as an incentive to switch to a new company. When your own family budget is under stress, use this and any other online sites to search for the best value-for-money policy you can find that will give you the protection you need when you put wheels on the road. Auto insurance keeps you legal and keeps you safe.

This can sound pretty unfair for young drivers, but they are likely to pay the highest insurance premiums compared to other age groups just because they are considered to be maximum risk group on the road. Still, there are certain ways the teen drivers can get lower insurance rates: taking special defensive driving courses, modifying deductibles, buying other insurance products from the same company or purchasing a car that is considered to be safer.

Tips on saving with reduced insurance rates

One of the easiest and most straighforward ways of getting lower insurance rates is purchasing a car that has additional safety features like front and side airbags, special seat belts, antilock breaks and so on. The majority of insurance companies offer special incentives on such safety features and such cars are generally far less costly to insure. Another way to cut your insurance premiums is to join an official drivers club like American Automobile Association (AAA), or speaking to your employer about special discounts he or she can offer to you as a corporate entity.

In case you have a rather old car, it may be a wise choice to go off without collision and comprehensive coverages included in your policy. These types of coverage impose you to pay a certain deductible when filing a claim, and the amount of money to be paid can sometimes be larger than your car is worth.

Your insurance rates also depend on your marital status and you will see it clearly if you are engaged or were recently married. This is simply because married individuals are regarded to be less risky by insurers. When you turn 25 years old, you can also expect a drop in insurance rates, because this age is regarded as a border-line with young adulthood and drivers over 25 are considered to be less aggressive and risk-posing.

Living with parents

In case you live with your parents and don’t have your own vehicle, it’s wiser to stay with their policy as they typically have far better insurance rates as older adults. Still, when you buy your own car, most insurers will impose you to sign off from your parents’ policy and get one own your own in order to avoid any misunderstandings with vehicle property.

Financial situation

In order to save some money with auto insurance, it is recommended to see what other insurance policies you have provide. For example, having a health insurance plan can help you drop Personal Injury Protection (PIP), making it to pay for medical bills resulted from traffic accidents. Sometimes your insurance company can offer you a lower premium for limiting the amount of your medical damages with uninsured motorist coverage.

Just have common sense with cutting your insurance coverage for the sake of saving money. Ending up in a serious car accident with low coverage limits will result in far more significant spendings that you could save with cheap car insurance.

Don’t forget that the best way to get a cheap car insurance deal is to get quotes online. Shop around, compare the offers, because rates vary significantly from one company to another.

Do you sometimes feel like you are on some reality show? Yes, you might now want to have a Big Brother watching over you, but the situation is like this. Most US citizens feel like their privacy is totally violated nowadays. There is a good thing about the red light / speeding cameras though. They keep us safe. We can almost state that they could be a worthy substitute for the police department. Drivers are not too excited about these cameras as the red light tickets could make an impact on their car plan rate. But it doesn’t really matter what we think about the cameras because they are becoming more and more popular in towns day by day. Here are some of the cities that will pick up the “trend” of the red light/speed camera installation – Moultrie, Georgia, Cleveland & Akron, Ohio and Scottsdale, Arizona. According to a US source there cities have welcomed the innovations and are receiving positive feedback from these red light/ speed cameras that have reportedly snagged more than 2,300 drivers in Cleveland, Ohio (suburb residents). In Cleveland, Ohio, red light violators are charged 100 dollars per citation while other violators, such as speeding ticket violators pay from 100 to 200 dollars, depending on how badly they have violated the legal limits. Ohio has also received great results from their pilot program. In almost 20 days of operation Akron’s cameras gave more than 3,000 tickets to violators from the area. The cameras have helped put the brakes on many lead foot drivers in the area. How do these cameras work? Let us tell you the major effect. The camera takes a quick shot of the car and then tries to capture the up-close picture of the license plate number. Once it is done, a ticket is issued and sent to the registered owner of the vehicle. What if you were not truly driving the car at the time of the photograph? Some people feel like these cameras are not doing their job properly. Drivers claim that these red light cameras can lead to some false facts of rule violations if the owner of the car was not truly driving at the time of the incident. In order to make these cases rare, some US states, Georgia for example, allow residents to contest the citation if the owner was not driving the car. Other states insist that the owner of the car takes the full responsibility for his vehicle no matter who drives it when. Do the cameras really help to reduce traffic violations? The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety states that the violation rates are reduced by 40 percent and that is only the beginning. The awareness of red light cameras makes people become more attentive which is the main requirement on the road. Are these cameras important? You can’t really say anything is important until you got used to it. But being careful on the road is important. If you have auto insurance and your car is covered – you should not be too bothered by these cameras. You auto insurance will cover you in case you got caught by the red light/ speed camera. But always be attentive – it is safer to be a good driver.

At one time or another, we have all walked into a car rental office and met with one of the counter staff on a mission to hard sell insurance. It’s like a knee-jerk reaction. See customer, sell additional insurance. The most common add-on is called loss damage waiver (LDW) and that can seriously boost your daily rate. So what is this mystery product and should we think about buying it? Well, let’s start off with a few of the basics. LDW is a kind of get-out-of-jail-free card, covering you if you put a dent in the body work or run the car off a cliff. No matter what happens, you’re off the financial hook. Most people own a vehicle of their own, have an insurance policy, and work on the basis this will cover them when driving a rental. But the $64,000 question is what cover you carry over. Let’s start with the deductibles.

To get the lowest possible premium on the regular policy, most people opt for the highest deductible. They reckon they are careful drivers and can afford to self-insure the first $1,000 of any damage. Except this does not quite square with the pricing policies of rental companies. Most seem to have in-house body shops paying top rate for repair personnel or use the most expensive independents. Although you might buy the cheapest possible replacement parts, your bill from the rental company will come in at the top end of expectations and add on the much-feared “loss of use” charge. This is their estimate of the daily loss of profit caused by not having the car available for rent. And, guess what. The rental company does not feel under any pressure to get the car back on the road. Suddenly, your deductible has gone and you find your own policy does not cover the loss of use charge.

But you’re still not panicking because you remember your credit card company offers some kind of back-up insurance. Now’s the time to read all that small print, i.e. before you rent the car. The terms often fall into the so-called secondary insurance market. In theory, this covers you for those heads of claim not covered by your own car insurance. Except the world never seems to work out quite the way you expect. What works on the Gold and Platinum cards may not work on others.

Auto insurance is never an exact science but there are one or two simple rules. If you are only renting for one or two days, it’s probably better to buy the LDW because any claim you make does not show up on your own policy and you avoid any premium hike. But there comes a point when the daily rate is too big a hit. Now you are gambling you will not have an accident that takes the rental car off the road for a long time. The reality is the daily rate for loss of use probably will not fall under your own cheap auto insurance and may not fall under the credit card secondary cover. So just make sure you only have minor accidents.

Sport Utility Vehicles have never been this popular before. People are not even stopped by the costs of fuel that has doubled and the growing concern for the environment. SUVs have captured our attention for some time.

SUV are still being portrayed as vehicles that represent danger, having a higher rollover than many cars or even trucks (and their owners usually pay higher auto insurance premiums, of course). From what we know, the reports from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have stated this. They claim that the amount of SUV’s on the road reaches over 15 percent of the total number of vehicles, drivers are warned that an SUV will not handle the same way as another type of vehicle. In order to be a good driver you need to provide security on the road. Your actions should not harm anybody – neither you nor other passengers on the road.

SUV are different from regular cars. That is why the SUV driver is required to be much more attentive than the normal driver as there could be plenty of situations on the road that need him to be careful and thoughtful like a real professional should be. SUV drivers need more braking distance than smaller automobiles when the whether is bad, which is necessary to keep in mind if you want to avoid an accident.

It should be also added that SUVs have a high center of gravity, which can cause drivers to lose control when they turn suddenly. And not having your four-wheel drive engaged can also cause the vehicle to slip sideways.

Advices for SUV drivers:

It is important to know how to drive your SUV properly. Practice driving in a large, empty space, such as an unused parking lot, then complicate your own tasks to make sure you are a good enough driver to meet various unforeseen situation of the road.

Avoid sudden or sharp steering changes. An SUV is not designed to make fast, sharp turns, and handles differently than a lower bodied sedan.

Consider other driver on the road. They do exist!

Recognize your visual limitations. Check your mirrors to make sure they minimize your blind spots on either side.

Brake better. SUVs should have a greater braking distance than most automobiles, especially in bad weather.

Don’t ever forget to use a seatbelt.

Driving too fats is never recommended. Slow down. Most people drive too fast. The slower you are the more time you will have to think in an emergency situation if it occurs.

It is not advised to have heavy cargo or to transport lots of people.

Don’t carry too much weight. Overloading tears the brakes, can overheat tires, and increases the risk of a blowout. So please know to love your SUV enough to protect it good.

Maintain your vehicle properly. Periodic service and close attention to tires and tire pressure help protect you and your passengers.

And the main rule: don’t forget about auto insurance. In case of an accident it can save you a lot of money.

So many things have changed … The College – bound teen students’ set of today seems to include only a debit card, laptop, TV with a DVD player, and a cell phone. Of course, you may think your child is different but is he really? Will he be able to keep up with the responsibility of driving on campus? You may reply: “Oh please, surely he is ready. He has been cruising around the town with his friends”. Yes, it can be so … But think about it for a second – he is driving around the unknown city, this is the territory totally unfamiliar to him. And this means – lots of pedestrians, multiple distractions and various destinations.

Here is some helpful advice on how to make sure your teen is safe on the road away from home:

Car Check

One should always check you kid’s car before he leaves for school. There might be little details to every single “insignificant “feature of the car. Start with headlights, oil level and tires.

Have a Car Accident Kit

A car accident kit is as necessary as oil in the car. There should be the following things included in it: first aid kit, blanket, flares, flashlight, batteries, jumper cables, pen, paper, emergency contact numbers and proof of auto insurance.

Locate the Essentials

Parents should take their teen for a drive around the college. He must know his way to the local supermarket, gas station and different malls in case he needs to buy something. The child should feel free to be the main person of his life without having to call his family and ask them where to purchase this or that product he needs.

Parking on Campus

A good parent will also show his child how to park the car. Most kids do get it wrong and make some basic mistakes. In order to avoid this parents should cruise around the area with their child, showing him how to do it right and letting him to practice parking. It is important to give your teen some tips on how to park under a light, avoid overgrown areas, park close to the street or bus stop and be aware of your surroundings.

Campus Driving Conditions

Driving in a new environment can often catch even the best drivers off guard. That’s why it’s important for college students to drive cautiously and remain alert in every situation on the road.

Pedestrians

Pedestrians are the main obstacle on the roads in the campus area. Your kid should always know the rules of a crosswalk and all corners.

Car Theft

Your child should know to lock the car while he is away. Don’t let him leave valuable things inside, especially with an open window.

Don’t Drink While Driving

Drinking is not permitted while driving. Consuming alcohol is illegal before 21. Breaking this rule may lead to some serious consequences.

Insuring your College Student

If your child wants to you’re your car while he is at college, you should take the responsibility of informing your car insurance company about this fact. The rate for this matter may range and can go down as well as up.

So these have been the most important notes to remember when you are about to welcome your child to an adult life. He must feel secure in his car, protected and out of danger. Car is not a toy and keeping your child and the car safe are two major priorities on the road.

If you are considering a trip overseas you might want to be super protected and well-insured. It also requires a lot of planning. Though some people might not agree but a health insurance is extremely important in the trip. As most of the cases and trips result as being successful and likely people do not meet any health problems, they consider the health insurance deal to be – the money spent in vain. But why do we think this? Isn’t our health the most important aspect of the trip, especially in some other country?

There are some health insurance plans that meet standard requirements. They are usually designed to cover extended period of international travel. Usually the managed health care plans cover emergency treatment regardless of where it is being received, but other types of care are typically limited to a local network of providers. It is a well-known statement: USA residents do not participate in the national well-being programs that are offered to residents of most European nations. Every independent agent you might ask will tell you that the most important information you should get before going overseas is to find out about the coverage you will have. You should inform the health insurance company you are dealing with about the country you want to visit, the purpose of your stay there and the period of time you will visit for.

People that travel much agree on the fact that the travel insurance is quite a necessary thing and may be a good solution in some cases. But usually, the travel insurance you will get will last no longer than half a year as the time of the insurance is always limited.

Travelers that usually spend more than six months abroad will go for a better type of health insurance. Those types of insurances are called – expatriate health insurances. Lloyd’s London, for example, are ready to offer USA residents that are living in other countries this type of insurance as Americans like to be protected especially well when they are traveling.

Expatriate health insurance plans do not have to be common. They can be adopted based on your basic requirements. In some extra cases you will get emergency treatment coverage, there is also a plan that includes maternity coverage, medical procedures that your health requires, such as acupuncture and chiropractic and in some necessary clinical case even the emergency evacuation. You should choose the plan taking into consideration your needs, your family’s needs and you upcoming travel plans.

When you have made up your mind about an expatriate plan, you will need to fill in a complicated application. Health insurance document consists of a few pages. You will be required to mention all of the health problems you family has met over the past 10 years, from broken legs to hereditary conditions to substance abuse. The payment for an expatriate plan will definitely differ depending on the features you choose; the number of family members to be covered; the age, sex, and state of health of each family member; your travel itinerary; and various other factors that might be important for the health insurance case and the people requiring it, of course.
